Details
WELLS ROAD 1. 1133 (West Side) Chindit House ST 5039 6/190 II 2. Dated 1903. Small house with rich Gothic details, built by a local builder called John Merrick for his own use. Asymmetrical front. 2 storeys. Ashlar. Slate roof, bargeboards. Eaves cornice with paterae. Stringcourse. Plinth. Bay through both storeys to left, small rectangular openings in curved splays. 2 brick chimneys set at 45% rise from the top of the bay. Small oculus and carved panel with 1903 intertwined with the initials J M. Small oriel on 1st floor to right with rich Gothic foliage. Cornices with paterae. 3 windows with foiled heads. One pair of pointed lights on ground floor to right with decorated spandrels, another pair on 1st floor over doorway. Central doorway with elongated open pediment supported by columns with foliated capitals. 5-panel door with fanlight and small side-lights.
