Coaching inn, now hotel. Late C18 with C20 alteration and extension. Herringbone-tooled sandstone to front and right side; squared sandstone to rear, rendered on left side; pantile roof with brick stacks, 1 rebuilt and rendered. L-shaped, central-stairhall plan, later extended into -outbuildings (qv) to left; C20 extension to rear. 3-storey, 3-window front with single-storey outbuilding extension to left. Door of raised and fielded panels, the lower one a diagonal cross, beneath a small-pane overlight. 12-pane sashes to ground and first floor, and 2-light 12-pane horizontal-sliding sashes to second floor. Painted stone sills to all windows. Tripartite keyed lintels to ground- and first-floor openings, and shaped lintels to second floor, interrupting stepped eaves course. Coped gable and kneeler to left. Roof hipped to right; end left stack. Outbuilding extension: C20 glazed door to right of inserted canted bay with small-pane windows. Right return front: 3-storey, 3-window front. 3 windows to each floor which repeat the features of the front. Coped gable and kneeler to right. End right and centre left stacks.
