GV II

Corn mill. Mid-C18 with mid-C19 alterations; restored c1965. Brick with slate roof. Three storeys and dentilled eaves cornice; 4 bays; all door and window openings have cambered heads. West elevation: scattered fenestration; 2 ground floor, metal-barred casements, and a narrow light; first floor has 2 casements, one is metal-barred; central stable door with hoist door above; a tall, gabled projection with bargeboards and finial and 2-light casement projects from roof to left of centre and contains the hoisting equipment. At each gable end are 3 round-headed archways within which is situated an undershot wheel with elm paddles and iron rims, and which drive 4 pairs of French burr millstones. Interior: roof has trenched, double purlins and 3 intermediate, interrupted tie-beam trusses. The machinery is complete and in full working order; inside there is a full set of tools and equipment, including a bolter to separate the bran from the flour. The mill has its own private wharf on the Droitwich Junction canal which passes about 100 yards to the south of the site; it was last used for grinding corn in 1947. The mill is of particular interest as a complete, working example of its type.
