5/121 Lower Doddenhill Farmhouse

GV II

Farmhouse. Early C17 with mid-C18, mid-C19 and mid-C20 alterations. Timber- framed with brick infill, brick refacing and replacement walling, plain tiled roofs. Hall and cross-wing plan; hall part of three framed bays aligned east/ west; west bay has large chimney with brick ridge stack, which forms a lobby- entry plan; cross-wing of two framed bays at west end. Two storeys, attic and cellar. Framing: three rows of panels exposed at first floor level to side and rear elevations; long straight braces in lower corners; collar and tie-beam trusses with two collars, four struts to lower and two to upper collar at east gable end and rear cross-wing. South front elevation: windows are all 3-light casements with cambered heads; hall part has two ground and first floor windows, a large gabled dormer with attic light, and, in angle with cross-wing, a C20 lean-to half-glazed porch with half-glazed door within; cross-wing gable end has a ground and first floor window and an attic light. Interior not inspected. C19 wing and lean-to addition to rear of hall.
