5/59 Barn and cow house situated immediately north-east of Court 6.10.52 Farmhouse (formerly listed as Court Farmhouse and barns)
GV II
Barn and cowhouse. Early C17 with mid-C19 alterations and additions. Barn: sandstone rubble, some timber-framing with rendered infill, weather- boarded at gable end; plain tiled roof. Seven bays aligned east/west; second and fifth bays from east end are wagon bays and have opposed cart entries with double doors. Ventilation slits in rubble walling. Framing: one row of square panels beneath eaves level; tie-beam trusses in gable ends partly visible but probably with lattice strut arrangement. South front elevation. has door in west bay with small loft door in panel above. Interior: roof trusses have been partly altered but Some collar and tie-beam trusses with raking struts across lower corners are retained; two tiers of purlins. Cowhouse: C19; sandstone rubble and brick with plain tiled roof; single level; three bays; south front elevation has two square windows and three doors. Interior: roof has two intermediate king-post trusses. The barn and cow house enclose the north side of the farmyard at Court Farmhouse (qv).
