9/108 Barn and stables about 20 yards west of Woodhall Grange

GV II

Barn and stables. C18 with mid-C19 and mid-C20 alterations and additions. Brick with machine-tiled roofs. L-plan. Barn of three bays aligned north/ south with central wagon bay and opposed cart entries. Header ventilation courses, diaper ventilation patterns at ends and cogged eaves cornice. Interior: roof has intermediate tie-beam trusses with raking struts and two tiers of trenched purlins. Stable adjoins to south-east; two levels; three bays; north elevation has two 6-pane windows and a rectangular light: on the ground floor, a 2-light casement and loft opening to the upper level and two stable doors with cambered heads. A small single-storey hipped-roofed C19 addition adjoins the north end of the barn; it has a window and a door with basket-arched heads in its east elevation. The barn and stables are situated close to Woodhall Grange (qv) and enclose the farmyard to the west and south. Included for group value.
