GV II

Pair of contemporary houses. Early/mid C18, some C20 modernisation. Plastered stone rubble, lightly blocked out as ashlar to front; disused end and ridge stacks; slate roof. PLAN: both double-depth, No.32 smaller. EXTERIOR: 3 storeys and attics; 7-window front (3 to No.32 and 4 to No.30) of flush-frame sash windows, 12-pane sashes to the ground and first floors and shorter 4/4-pane sashes to the second floor. Round-headed doorways right and left of centre. Recessed doors; both have C20 replacement doors (but No.32 has fielded 6-panel door), and both have original spoked fanlights, shaped like 3 radiating teardrops. Plain eaves to parallel gable-ended roof. No.32 has C20 front dormers. INTERIOR: Only a part of No.30 was available for inspection. The ground-floor rooms have lost their chimneypieces and any moulded plaster cornices, but there are original fielded-panel doors. Entrance passage has moulded plaster cornice. Large segmental arch to the stair well which has original open-well stair and slender turned balusters with blocks. Rest of interior not inspected but likely to be of interest.
