GV II
Almshouses. Dated 1665, restored C19. Ashlar sandstone; brick; graduated slate roof, with central gable and bellcote; 2 brick end stacks (to wings). E shaped plan: a range of 12 cottages. 2 storeys, of brick over ashlar; 11-window range: C19, 3-light casements; central gable has tablet, clock, and firemark. Paired entrances, with C19 plank doors in moulded wood frames, and in return of right-hand wing, plank doors in moulded wood arch (to Chapel), under pentice roofed porch on ashlar pillar; 11, 3-light casements; all under moulded ashlar dripcourse. Right returned side has C17, 3-light mullion window, with lattice-leaded lights, under shouldered dripcourse; brick lean-to with plank door, to right. INTERIOR: No.96: straight staircase; exposed timber-framing in party wall. 1st floor: exposed timber-framing in party wall. Ground floor: ogee-stop chamfered ceiling beams. (RCHME).
