GV II

Workhouse, now hospital. 1838-9. By Boulton and Palmer of Stafford. Brick with plaster dressings; hipped slate roof with brick axial stacks. Georgian style. Single storey; 7-window range, end windows in forward breaks. Plinth, lintel band and wide modillioned eaves. Round-headed windows have archivolts, end tripartite round-headed windows; all boarded, but probably 12-pane sashes with margin lights; central and end windows with fielded-panel aprons. Right return has truncated lateral stack and round-headed entrance with archivolt and fanlight with decorative glazing bars over 6-panel door. Rear has right end wing with tripartite window and lateral stack; central round-headed entrance as to return but with brick arch, and key; flanking windows with triangular-headed lintels and 12-pane sashes with margin lights.
