GV II

Pair of houses. Mid C19, altered. Red brick in Flemish bond with sandstone dressings and graduated green slate roof. Double-depth plan, each house single-fronted, with side entrances and coupled back extensions. Neo-Jacobean style. Two storeys plus attics, 2+2 windows; projected outer bays under shaped gables with Jacobean finials, each with a stone 2-storey canted bay window which has panelling between the floors and a panelled parapet, No. 25 with cross-window glazing but No.26 altered and lacking the mullions and transoms; and a lancet window to the attic. The intermediate bays have rectangular windows with quoined surrounds, 2-light mullioned casements at No.25 but altered at No.26. Roof with two skylights, one ridge chimney and gable chimneys. The left return wall of No.25 has a gabled porch with a Tudor-arched doorway in the front wall, stone gable coping with finial, and diamond-pattern slate roof; No.26 has an altered porch. Forms part of a noteworthy mid-C19 seaside development of villas and boarding houses.
