GV II*
Vicarage, now private house. 1790s, remodelled slightly early C19. Possibly by Thomas Edwards. Granite ashlar with flat arches to basement; tall coped ashlar plinth above basement, rusticated quoins, also to central bay, mid-floor string; central pediment and parapet with modillion cornices; coursed Elvan at rear and Elvan rubble to sides; hipped concrete tiled roof with deep rendered end stacks. Double-depth plan with 2 front reception rooms flanking a central entrance hall leading to a large stair hall between kitchen on left and probable study on right. Late Georgian style. 2 storeys plus attics over basement; symmetrical 2:1:2-bay south front with pedimented central bay broken forward. Original, early C19 and C20 copy hornless sashes with glazing bars under flat arches with projecting key-blocks, those to ground floor in openings deepened early C19. Central bay has lunette to triangular pediment over sash with fanlight head over round-arched doorway with recessed architrave; original panelled door and concentric fanlight. Rear is 5-window range with hornless sashes with glazing bars including Venetian window left of centre and mid-floor windows to service stair right of centre. INTERIOR: largely complete and original but the plaster cornices of front rooms and stair hall were enriched in early C19 and the doors of the reception rooms were repositioned at the same time. Original panelled doors; early C19 window shutters to front rooms; original large open-well staircase with open-string with guttae; fluted stick balusters and ramped mahogany handrail scrolled over newel. Other principal rooms have original moulded cornices and most rooms have their original or early chimneypieces. The attics have 2-panel doors and there is a tie-beam roof structure; large cellars with stone flags and original doors. Many external and internal similarities to Bonython House, Cury (not included).
