GV II
House. Mid/late C16. Timber-framed and rendered with exposed framing on front and clay pantile gabled roof. 2 storeys with lower 2-storey extension on E flank. Main block has central gault brick ridge stack. Front elevation: jettied with 4 exposed small brackets. First floor has two 3-light windows with leaded glazing, each having `frieze' side lights with moulded mullions and leaded lights. The ground floor has similar fenestration pattern and central oak door under mid/late C16 shallow arched door head and C20 side lights. W flank elevation has single-light cast-iron casement on first floor over shallow gabled projecting bay window. Rear elevation has C20 casements and C20 open lean-to structure with pantiled roof supported on 2 reused C17 jowled posts probably from former cart shed. Remnants of old pargetting with date plaque inscribed I.W.C above the the initials J.F. 1901. The E extension has gabled clay pantile roof and a 2-light Gothick C19 arched headed window in first floor of front elevation. The rear of this block has part of roof eased out to provide a dormer. Remarkably complete 2-bay plus stack bay, long-wall, jetty house with baffle entry form. Jowled posts, side purlin roof, chamfered spine beams and arch bracing to each stack-framing tie-beam. Inglenook fireplace with mantel beam. Each major bay has extra central tie-beam (original?) to support, now removed attic floor. Windows of front are substantially complete with some replaced mullions and security bars. Centre part of each has 3-light C17 or early casement with contemporary fittings.
