TQ3182SE SEKFORDE STREET 635-1/74/763 (East side) Nos.26A-33 (Consecutive) and attached railings

GV II

Terraced houses, now partly offices. c.1835. Yellow brick set in Flemish bond, stucco, roof obscured by parapet except for additional pitched roof of artificial slate to no 32. Three storeys over basement, no 26A one-window range, nos 27-31 two windows each, nos 32 and 33 three windows each and double-fronted. All openings have gauged brick heads. Round-arched entrance apart from nos 29 and 30 which are almost elliptical, with, on nos 27-33, Doric columns (fluted on nos 27 and 31-33) carrying cornice and fanlight (with decorative glazing to nos 28, 30 and 33, no 32 blocked). Panelled doors of original design to nos 28-31. No 26A has a late C20 replacement entrance, narrow and round-arched. Ground-floor windows round-arched except nos 29-30 which are almost elliptical; stucco sill band to first floor. Upper windows flat-arched, those to the first floor set back under round arches of gauged brick linked by stucco springing bands. Sashes of original design, with intersecting tracery to ground floor, to nos 32 (ground floor) and 33 (first and second floors). Parapet with brickwork in emulation of triglyphs and guttae, much rebuilt. Stacks to party walls. Cast-iron railings to area. (Historians' file, English Heritage London Division).
