TQ3184SE CANONBURY SQUARE 635-1/53/195 (North side) 20/09/54 Nos.42-47 (Consecutive) and attached railings
GV II
Terraced houses. c.1810. Developed by Henry Leroux. Brown brick set in Flemish bond, roofs of Welsh slate. Four storeys above basement except no 47 of which only basement and ground floor remain; three windows each. Steps up to round-arched entrance with gauged brick heads, reeded pilaster-jambs of various designs, cornice, fanlight with decorative glazing bars, panelled doors of original design. No 47 has panelled doorcase, scrolled impost block and decorative keystone. Ground-floor windows round-arched with gauged brick heads, sashes with radiating glazing bars. All upper windows have flat arches and gauged brick heads. First-floor windows have piano nobile proportions, and balconies on brackets, with iron railings which appear to be replacements on all but no 46; the windows set within round-arched recessed panels with gauged brick heads. Parapet above second floor, dormers in mansard roof. Stacks to party walls. Early C19 rainwater-heads on nos 44 and 46. Cast-iron railings to area with spear and urn finials.
