House, now shop. Mid C18, altered C19 and C20. Sandstone ashlar, and a slate roof. Double-depth plan, with the staircase at the original back at the right, and a large, later, full-width rear extension. 3 storeys, above a cellar, and 3 bays, with rusticated chamfered quoins and a projecting eaves cornice. The ground floor now has a mid C20 shop front. The upper windows have slightly-projecting surrounds with triple keystones, and Victorian 4-pane sashes. The rocking horse placed in front of the first-floor central window dates from c1987, but is the third to act as the shop's sign. INTERIOR: above the first half-landing the staircase is original, dogleg in form with an open string and carved brackets, with 3 column-on-vase balusters per tread up to the second floor and 2 per tread up to the attic. HISTORY: New Street was developed from 1748, and this must have been one of the first houses built.
