No.5) II Row of 5 cottages. Late C18 and early C19, altered C20.
Sandstone rubble with painted ashlar dressings, painted
roughcast at the front, slobbered and rendered at the rear.
Slate roofs. Double-depth plan except for No.1, which is
single-depth.
All 2 storeys, but Nos 4 & 5 lower. No.1 has 3 small square
windows at ground floor and 2 above, all 2-light casements,
designed to resemble horizontal sliding sashes, a doorway to
the left, and a ridge chimney, plus a C20 addition to the left
end.
Nos 2 & 3 are both single-fronted, with doorways to the right
of the windows. No.2 has a doorway with a stone lintel and a
modern glazed door, one vertical-rectangular window with a
plain surround on each floor, now both top-hung casements, and
a chimney at the junction with No.1 to the left. No.3 has a
recessed door with raised plain surround, one square window on
each floor to the left with similar surrounds, now both
top-hung casements, an inserted attic dormer breaking the
eaves, and a ridge chimney stack at the junction with No.2 to
the left.
Nos 4 & 5, of 2 low storeys, both single-fronted, have
doorways to left and right respectively, both with chamfered
surrounds and shaped lintels (presumably ex situ), that to
No.4 with raised lettering '1640'. At ground floor each has a
square 6-pane sash with raised plain surround, at 1st floor
No.4 has a top-hung casement imitating these and No.5 has a
4-pane sash. Ridge chimney at the junction.
