GV II

House. Early C17 and early C19. Timber-framed and rendered with front parapet with gabled dark concrete pantiled roof with Suffolk verge boards. One flat roofed C20 dormer. 2 storeys and attics with an early C19 double-hung sash window with small panes, on each floor. Simple doorcase with moulded pilasters, consoles and flat hood. South gable is of white weatherboarding and substantial stack at north gable. 2-storey rear extension, timber-framed with gabled roof and single flat-roofed dormer. A timber frame of 2 unequal bays with quadrant moulded spine beams and bridging joists. (Stack bay to north). INTERIOR: roof has 3 bays with 'A' frames with joggled side purlins and a single collar to each pair of principals. Front was originally jettied with each joist pegged to inner bressumer. Fireplace is substantially original with cambered mantel beam with stopped quadrant moulding. Stair winds up behind stack and has elegant board arched head at top. Mixture of pine and elm framing and well-preserved example of the period. (RCHME: Essex NE: London: 1922-: 136 (30)).
