Town house, now shop. 1777 with mid C19 alterations. Brick;
tile roof with truncated brick end stack. Right angle plan. 2
storeys with attic; 2-window range. 2 stucco platt bands and
coped gables. C20 traditional-style shop front with
entablature. Upper windows have rusticated wedge lintels with
keys over 16-pane horned sashes to 1st floor, 8-pane horned
sashes to 2nd floor. Right return has round-headed entrance
with fanlight over half-glazed door, stucco spandrels;
flanking 8-pane horned sashes and end 4:12:4-pane horned
tripartite sashes; 1st floor has French windows flanking plate
glass sash with smaller sash to right; pediment has
round-headed window with enriched bracketed archivolt and key,
flanking segmental-headed dormers, all have horned sashes.
2-storey cast-iron verandah has swept felt roof; fluted
pilasters and scrolly foliage brackets to ground floor, 1st
floor has similar brackets on lattice supports. Stucco
returns: to street an entrance with Doric aedicule with
pediment and date, to 1st floor a small-paned window between
panelled pilasters; to rear a round-headed window. Return
faces Bridge Foot and forms an important element in the
townscape of the entrance to the town.
