House. Mid C18 and mid C19. Flemish-bond brick, and partly of uncoursed local rubble; mansard pantile roof to main block, brick coping and brick stacks to gable ends of main block. 2-unit plan with taller C19 wing to the left. 2 storeys with attic; symmetrical 2-window range to the main block. 6-panel door and hood, probably C20, flanked by flat gauged brick arches to early C19 8/8-pane sash windows in forward frames, 8 panes to the tops and plate-glass below; a 3-course brick platband; 3 flat gauged brick arches with stone keystones to 6/6-pane sashes (some with old glass) in forward frames flank a blind window to first floor. Ground floor of left wing has continuous brick coursing with the main house; it was probably raised, with a vertical joint above mid C19. Window to left has segmental arch with keystone; flat gauged brick arch over fixed 3-light plate-glass window and late C18 6/6-pane sash above. Gabled left return has limestone rubble panel to centre round segmental brick arch to planked door. To right of first floor is a segmental relieving arch over timber lintel to C19 two-light casement window, above is a similar but smaller window to attic. INTERIOR: Room to right of ground floor now part of the Mansion House Inn (qv), room to left has simple C18 wood surround to fireplace on left wall, planked door to stairs in rear wall and steps to left of fireplace down to brick-floored service end where open fireplace backs onto that of adjoining room. First floor has wide planked partition screen to landing and 2 raised-and-fielded 2-panel doors, others are planked. The attic is plastered over straw. The late C19 or C20 roof has no principal rafters but some random diagonal braces.
