GV II
Terrace of houses, now divided into flats. c1875, some C20 alterations to attic storey. Render over brick, concrete tiled roof concealed behind parapet, tall rendered stacks with moulded caps. Plan: terrace abutting 1-3 Albemarle Mansions (qv) to the north, south return facing the sea. 4 storeys over basement, some with attic additions; 4-window units consisting of full-height canted bays with entrance to right, sashes without glazing bars except to third floor where there is one vertical glazing bar to the central window of each canted bay; pierced parapet of linked circles, moulded cornice, cambered heads to third floor with moulded architraves and pediments to central window of canted bay and window above entrance, continuous cast-iron balcony to first floor; cambered heads and keystones to ground floor windows with continuous moulded cill carried on brackets, some cast-iron window box guards remaining; rusticated surround to recessed entrances with cambered heads, panelled doors with fanlights and sidelights approached by flight of 7 steps. Solid wall with moulded coping returned to piers. Left return of No.8 facing towards the sea; first floor canopy with wooden trelliswork forming 3-bay loggia, now partially glazed, abutting full-height canted bay, ground floor with oriel bay window centre, with windows adjoining returned to main elevation. Piers, mixed railings and balustrading to walls fronting road. Rusticated piers with shallow pyramid caps, moulded coping to balustrading of interlocking circles on plinth; identical to that returned around Nos 1-3 Albemarle Mansions (qv). No.8 was occupied by Capt. and Mrs O'Shea 1883-9, and the fire escape arrangements for the building became an object of public interest in 1890 when Capt O'Shea brought an action for divorce citing Parnell, the Irish nationalist and politician, as co-respondent.
