Shop with offices and storage over. Late C17/early C18 with
later C18 and C19 alterations. Stucco to front and sides,
stucco and coursed limestone rubble to rear; stone slate roof,
concrete tiles to rear; rebuilt brick stack on gable to rear.
3 storeys and attic; 4-window range. First floor has 4 late
C18 6/6-pane sashes in plain reveals; 3 similar windows and
one blind window to second floor.
Ground floor has mid C19 shopfront with recessed glazed door
to centre flanked by two windows; recessed panels to stall
riser, heavy moulded cill, windows divided into 4 and 3 panes
by heavy moulded glazing bars with leaf-moulded bases and
capitals; pilaster strips to left and right and frieze with
moulded surround; probable deep moulded cornice now removed.
Deep plat band over first floor; moulded eaves cornice. One
gabled dormer with 2-light leaded casement.
INTERIOR has C20 alterations to ground floor and C20 staircase
from ground to first floor; first floor left has ceiling with
moulded plaster decoration divided by heavy rough cross beam,
not intended to be exposed, into two parts each with richly
decorated border and scrolls in corners of plain field to
centre; ceiling probably late C17/early C18 now very heavily
clogged with paint and damaged, said to have been removed and
reinstated when building repaired 1980's. Chamfered jambs of
probable late C17 fireplace exposed by removal of later
fireplace.
Late C17/early C18 oak staircase from first floor to attic has
scissor string and splat balusters with moulding applied to
outsides, corniced handrail and square newels.
Rooms to second and third floor right divided from staircase
by late C17 panel partition; second floor has three 3-panel
doors and rough beams, one with chamfer and ogee stops to one
end. Attic has C19 stone fireplace with small mid C19 grate.
Front range has 3-bay roof with massive collars extended to
rear into gable carrying stack and into rear wing; rear wing
has curved principals and butt purlins, new rafters and plank
ridge. Roof structure throughout partially concealed and
altered.
