Bakery, shop and living accommodation. Possibly mid-C15;
alterations, additions and rebuilding of late C17 and C19.
Coursed squared limestone, now painted, to front; stucco to
rear and rear wing. Welsh slate roof; no stacks visible to
front. Mid C15 street-front range, refaced C18/early C19, has
late C17/early C18 wing to rear left; early/mid-C19 extension
to rear right.
2 storeys and attic; 3-window range. First floor has three C19
2/2-pane horned sashes in plain reveals; ground floor has C20
hardwood shopfront to left with plate glass windows and glazed
door to centre; carriage entrance to right. Two gabled dormers
with C19 2-light timber casements. Band course over first
floor.
Late C17 rear wing has C19 four-light timber
mullion-and-transom windows to ground and first floors of side
elevation; coved timber eaves cornice. C19 addition to rear of
main range has two 6/6-pane sashes in plain reveals with
vermiculated keyed lintels to first floor; C19 2-light
casement in similar reveal to ground floor.
INTERIOR has C19 winder stair from ground to first floor;
early C18 closed string well staircase with turned balusters,
upstanding handrail and continuous chamfered newels from first
to second floor. Ground floor front, now shop, has 2 heavy
chamfered cross beams; chamfered axial bridging beam in bay to
left has diagonal cut stop, similar beam in bay to right
unstopped; heavy joists in end bays. Bridging beam and joists
in central bay, originally open to roof, smaller section.
3-bay roof structure visible in bays to centre and right only;
heavy smoke-blackened principals; diagonal ridge purlin; heavy
butt-purlins; collars renewed. Remnants of two tiers of
windbraces in central bay; lower tier only in bay to right.
Rear slope has some renewed rafters; rafters to front slope
renewed when building refaced and roof pitch altered. Hollowed
stone eaves gutter now inside front slope. Closed truss to
right end has early collar and studded infill, possibly early.
