SO8932 HIGH STREET 859-1/6/270 (East side) 04/03/52 No.147
GV II
House in row, with shop. Early to mid C18 front on earlier fabric. Flemish bond brickwork, asbestos-cement slate roof. 3 storeys and attic, 2-windowed. Behind the parapet is an unusual paired dormer with moulded eaves to a hipped roof, split at the centre, but with a continuous small-pane casement front. First and second floors have plain sashes with moulded exposed boxes to brick voussoirs and stone cills. C19 pilaster shop front with central glazed door under a transom-light, deep C20 fascia between console brackets. 3-course brick band above the first floor, and 2-course above second floor; high parapet with coping. The steep roof, with ridge parallel to the street, suggests an early fabric behind a rebuilt front. The brickwork has been repointed in light mortar, and there is a series of 6 iron ties taken through the structure, which shows signs of settlement in the facade. INTERIOR not inspected.
