Ashdown Cottage
2/84 II
House, C18 with C14 core. 2 storeys with flanking 1-storey additions. Timber- framed, rendered. Hipped thatched roof with C19 axial chimney of red brick with saw-tooth ornament to shaft. C19 2-light wrought iron small-pane casements. Arched, boarded and battened entrance door. The front central C14 core has sections of internally exposed framing with prolific wall wind- bracing; probably the surviving storeyed end bay of a substantial house formerly extending southwards. The roofs were rebuilt C18; one section reuses mediaeval smoke-blackened rafters.
