Details

OLD BRISTOL ROAD 1. 5227 (south-east side) Millbottom Mill ST 8499 6/50 20.9.72 II 2. Early C19, replacing corn-mill on the site. Used for both corn and cloth in C19. Now converted to dwelling. Coursed rubble with corrugated iron roof and end chimneys. Slight break in centre and other evidence in roof indicates that it was planned as a symmetrical rectangular block of 11 bays with central full height pedimented break and may have been intended to have an extra storey. Later, mainly brick accretions. South front 2 storeys, 2+3 windows to right. Later lean-to with 3 ground floor windows to left, 2 windows with covered steps to far left. Original windows segment headed with casements. Roughly central door with cusped arch opening over. Three storeys to north with later mainly brick lean-to extensions marking the elevation. Note door on ground floor in the chamfered frame of a possibly C18 window. Arched and rusticated main doorways concealed by these accretions. External wheel on east gable end.
