Details

HEWELSFIELD GENERAL SO 50 SE 6/33 Monument to HENERY ..... in the churchyard c11m south of the nave to the church of St Mary Magdalen GV II Chest tomb. Late C17. Sandstone. Flat top to moulded edge, lyre ends, deep sunk panels with palmette or bundled reed embellishment north and south; in the centre of the east end an embellished sunk circular panel with a 6-pointed star; base sunk at time of survey, November 1983. Inscriptions not fully legible, but referto HENERY .... 1694, with lines as follows on south side: "Swet frendes morne no more I am not/ lost but gon before for Jesus Christ/ doth call to rest prepare to dy for dy/ thou must'. Monument lies centrally to a group of 3 running east-west in close alignment.
