Parish church: C12, C14, C15, C19 restoration. Random rubble,
irregular larger stone quoins to transepts and chancel, better
squared to upper part of tower, ashlar to parapet; tiled roof.
Nave, transepts, chancel, west tower, south porch, vestry. Tower,
four stages with plain string courses: lowest central pilaster
buttress, to right doorway, radiating voussoirs above semi-circular
headed lintel with steep segmental soffit. Tapered lancet with
square-head second stage; trefoil head to lancet third stage, 2-
light window with stone louvres top. Moulded string with corner
gargoyles set diagonally, above crenellated parapet, with crocketed
corner finials. Nave, moulded stone and timber eaves on timber
corbels: buttress on left, blocked round-headed window, to right
carved head over ridge of porch roof, beyond 2-light reticulated
tracery window. Porch gabled, plain, chamfered doorway, flat-
headed single light above, with above an angled sundial. South
transept, cross-gabled apex to gable with remains of cross: 2-
light Y tracery window with hoodmould. Chancel, blocked priest's
door on left, single lancet to right; below Arrowsmith monument,
early C18, lettering recut, above half pyramid. 3-light C19
window with reticulated tracery; below top of arch appears at
ground level: blocked lancet to right.
Interior: wide, plain arches to transepts, flat plaster ceiling to
nave. Brass standards for earlier lighting remain. Royal Arms
(William III) over south door: Decalogue, Pater Noster and Creed
on two trompe l'oeil diptychs on painted boards, early C19.
Recumbent effigy of priest in North Transept. Restored 1869 by A.
W. Maberly; battlements later replaced spire. (D. Verey,
Gloucestershire, The Vale and the Forest of Dean, 1970; old
photograph in vestry).
