GV II*
House, former Court House. C14. Timber framed and plastered with c.1800 red brick front. Roofs are of pegtiles and generally gabled. Of 2 storeys with catslide lean-to at rear and one storey extension with gable to east and glazed lean-to. Long rear C17 extension with lower ridge line and lean-to on its north side. Both gable ends of main block are rendered. Front of red Flemish bond brick with random grey headers rubbed brick window heads and arches, string band and moulded brick cornice. First floor has 4 tripartite double hung sash windows without glazing bars. Ground floor has 3 similar tripartite double hung sash windows with lobed plastered surrounds and keystones, set within semi- circular arched recesses. The off-centre double entrance door is similarly treated and has a segmental head with plain fanlight. Opposed flights of steps with painted timber handrails. Off-centre small ridge line stack. Internally, the high quality and massive timber frame is substantially exposed, with moulded arch bracing to tie beams and bridging joists and closely spaced studwork. 2 contemporary door heads survive and a crown post roof of cross-quadrate form with shaped bracing reaching up to soulace pieces. Large inserted ingelnook stack with timber mantel beam and some C17 panelling.
