TL 51 NW HATFIELD BROAD OAK WOOD ROW

3/132 Forest Farmhouse 19/11/76 GV II

House. Mid to late c16. Timber framed and plastered, but part encased in red brick. 'L' plan shape of 2 storeys with catslide lean-to on west elevation. Roofs are in pegtile. Front block with brick plaque dated 1869 in gable end and tall gable end stacks. Its south elevation has 2 early C19 cast iron casements over 2 similar windows with arched brick heads and a central C20 lean-to open porch with pegtile roof. Behind this an early C19 doorcase part obscured with fluted pilasters. The east end wall has 3 cast iron single light casements with small panes and Gothick heads. The rear block has a ridge line stack and slightly lower ridge line. Probable small open hall and crosswing with straight bracing interrupting studs (early example), jowled posts and large braces to tie beams. Internally there is a complete cast iron kitchen range and panelling and stairs of c.1830.
