ELLAND STAINLAND ROAD sB 078195 (west side) 5/130 Ellistones Farm Barn 24.1.68 G.V. II

Barn, medieval interior encased in C17. Dressed stone, and hammer-dressed stone, with coped gables and kneelers. Modern corrugated iron roof. Large double-aisled barn with opposed square headed entrances, and archheaded ventilators to gable. Front has projecting gable to aisle with chamfered door surround and depressed tudor-arched lintel with a 2-light chamfered mullioned window to each side and 4 tiered pigeon cote in gable.

Interior: double-aisled barn of 5 bays, of post and truss construction with king-post roof trusses supporting one purlin. All rafters replaced. Posts have finely out arched braces to tie-beam and arcade plate. Substantial evidence remains for timber wall with diagonal struts, on one side only, from earlier structure. The building would then appear to have developed from a single-aisled timber-framed barn which was encased in stone in the mid C17 and a further aisle added to the farmhouse side and a gabled stable put in to the new aisle.
