PONTEFRACT MARKET PLACE SE 4521 NE (south-east side) 8/32 No 3 (formerly listed as 5.11.68 'No 3 York County Savings Bank')
GV II
House, now bank. Late C18 with later alterations. Rendered brick with painted stone dressings and slate roof. 3 storeys , and 3 bays. To left, 2 steps to semi-circular-headed doorcase with deeply recessed 6-fielded-panel door below traceried fanlight, leading to staircase to upper floors. Shop to right has 3 C20 semi-circular-headed openings, glazed door to left and 2 plate-glass windows to right, in C19 surround with Tuscan pilasters between the openings and to ends, supporting entablature with plain frieze decorated with paterae over the end pilasters, and moulded cornice with stepped blocking course. First floor has 3 plate-glass sashes and second floor has 3 C20 pivoting windows; all in original surrounds with architraves and projecting sills. Coved eaves band and fine modillioned cornice; blocking course over with raised central and end panels. Steeply pitched roof with C19 brick end stacks with yellow brick quoining.
