Details

SE 21 SW LODGE STREET Skelmanthorpe 1/39 Manor Farm 'Jubilee' 23/2/77 Youth Centre (formerly listed as cruck barn belonging to Messrs. Edwin Field & Son)

II

Cruck-framed building and adjoining former barn, now youth centre. Probably C17 or earlier origin. Barn and most of walling C18. Some late C19 walling, and some recent additions. Early walling of dry coursed rubble, rest hammer dressed stone. Slate roof. The southern part contains the cruck trusses one foot being exposed at ground level to right of recent stone porch on west side. Square-headed, part blocked cart entry on east side. The later barn has elliptical-headed cart entry on east side and mistal door with deep lintel inscribed in heart shape: Willm) Oxley 1700 Mary)

The two cruck trusses meet at the apex and have collars. Tie-beams are sawn off flush with blades but project outwards into the side walls. Some timbers have been recently added. Purlins do not appear to be in their original housings on the outer face of the cruck blades. Two king-post trusses to former barn, with struts and projecting king post taking the ridge.
