LAPWORTH STRATFORD-UPON-AVON CANAL SP17SE (East side) 1/58 Lock-keepers Cottage approx. 50m SE of Lock 21 GV II Lock-keepers cottage. Circa 1816 for the Stratford-upon-Avon Canal, with C20 addition. Painted brick; asphalt-covered brick barrel-vault roof with segmental parapeted gable ends; brick ridge stack to right of centre. Single-storey, 3-window range. 2-light casements to left and centre. 3-light casement with segmental head to right. C20,door to C20 addition to rear. Interior not inspected. History: one of a series of six lock-keepers cottages on the Stratford-upon-Avon Canal. The Stratford-upon-Avon Canal was started in 1793 and opened in 1816. The roof was built using form-work similar to that used for canal bridges. [ 3]
