Details

KING STREET 1. 5304 (West Side) 5.1.50 Nos 69 to 81 (odd) Area Railings to No 81 SK 5803 9/57 II 2. Dated 1836. Early C19 terrace range in stucco, with plinth and bands. Two-storey houses in pairs, with pilasters with anthemion capitals dividing off all windows and doors. Ten window range, with dog-eared stucco architraves. All sashes with glazing bars. Doors paired and recessed, each pair with a plain segmental headed entry up three stone steps. Five-panel doors with rectangular traceried fanlights. Plain frieze and cornice breaking forward between doorways. No 81 is the corner house of block, faces south, with similar treatment, and division by pilasters but the centre has a rounded two-storey bow containing door and window, and a plaque above inscribed "Crescent Cottages 1836" inserted in frieze below the cornice. Recessed door, which has a shouldered stucco architrave, as also the two ground floor windows. A small rectangular blind panel flanks door and central upper window. One later dormer with barge boards. Slate roof. Including area railings to No 81 with spear-headed shafts and linked circles in frieze below, the two small gates are treated in same way.
