Grave monument to W.E Henley at St John the Baptist Church

Monument to W.E Henley, 1903; memorial slab to his daughter Margaret set into rear. Stone with metal panels of low relief sculpture. Monument takes the form of a primitive Doric aedicule. Henley was a well-known poet. His ashes, together with his wife's, were buried in the grave of his daughter Margaret, who is buried in the churchyard. Margaret was the inspiration for 'Wendy' in the story of Peter Pan by J M Barrie.
