SP4735 ADDERBURY HIGH STREET (West side) Adderbury East 7/47 Royal Oak House 08/12/55 (Formerly listed as Royal Oak Public House)

GV II Public house, now house. Mid C17 altered and partly rebuilt C20. Coursed squared marlstone with some ashlar dressings and some wooden lintels; concrete plain-tile roof with rebuilt brick stacks. 2-unit cross-passage plan. 2 storeys plus attic. 3-window front has a central doorway and C20 casements, one retaining a C17 label mould. Lower C20 range projects on left. Rear, which has a small projecting wing, retains a further label and a 2-light ovolo-moulded stone-mullioned cellar window. Interior: Large open fireplace, partly rebuilt, backing onto cross passage; smaller open fireplace with splayed jambs and stop-chamfered bressumer; stop-chamfered spine beams; early panelled doors and window seats. Included for group value.
