ASHTON UNDER HILL CP BECKFORD ROAD (west side) SO 9837 - 9937 11/8 22/3A Granary about 10 yards east of Old Manor Farmhouse 30-7-59 (formerly listed as Lower Manor Farmhouse and Dovecote) GV II

Granary. Mid-C17. Coursed limestone rubble with ashlar dressings; plain and stone tiled roof with gable-end parapets. Two levels on chamfered plinth. Two bays. Main west elevation: external limestone steps to left lead up to granary entrance which is set beneath a small gabled projection with four tiers of alight- ing ledges and entry holes for pigeons. The doorway itself has a four-centred arched head, a hoodmould with returns and a ledged and battened door. To the right of the steps is an inserted archway. The north gable end has a 3-light upper-level window with chamfered stone mullions, leaded lights and a hoodmould with returns. There is a similar window of two lights with no hoodmould on the ground floor of the east elevation. Interior: roof has an intermediate sling- brace truss.
