5/44 Barn and shelter shed about 20 yards north-west of Walker's House
GV II
Barn and shelter shed. C17 and mid-C19. Barn: timber-framed, weatherboarded, some corrugated iron cladding and corrugated iron roof. Three framed bays aligned north/south; central wagon bay with opposed cart entries and double doors. Framing: lower row of large and upper row of smaller rectangular panels from sill to wall-plate, long straight lower corner braces and collar and tie-beam trusses; south end truss has two collars, five struts to lower collar, three to upper collar and V-strut in apex; intermediate trusses have raking struts across lower corners; two tiers of trenched purlins. An additional framed bay, lower in height, adjoins the north gable end, similar in construction but having a truss with a single collar with three struts beneath and V-strut above. The shelter shed adjoins its west elevation; brick rear wall, timber posts to front and plain tiled roof. L-plan of eight bays aligned east/west with two-bay return to south-east. Intermediate C19 king-post roof trusses throughout. The barn and shelter shed surround the north, east and west sides of the farmyard at Walker's House (qv).
