Details

STAINFORTH SD 86 NW 2/15 Stainforth House 15.8.88 GV II Formerly house, now residential home. c1840s with later C19 and early C20 additions. Ashlar, slate roof. 2 storeys, 4 bays. First bay is probably a later addition in the same style, and is separated from the remaining bays by a Tuscan pilaster. Third bay projects slightly and contains an entrance porch with pilasters supporting a Tuscan entablature. 4 ground floor windows to left and 2 to right, all with moulded surrounds and sashes without glazing bars. 4 similar but slightly larger windows more widely spaced on the upper floor. Tuscan quoin strips. Projecting eaves with paired brackets to parallel hipped roof. 2 right-hand stacks and stack between bays 1 and 2. Left-hand return has 2-storey canted bay window and projecting wing to its left with upper floor billiard room having a hipped roof, partly glazed, and partly encircled by a semi-octagonal decorative iron screen. Interior: c1840s dog-leg staircase with turned balusters and wreathed handrail.
