CHURCHGATE (West Side)Nos 25 to 31 (odd)(Sloswicke's Hospital) (Almshouses)

GII* Early C19.Two-storey almshouses.Foundation of 1657,but building now dates from alterations in 1806 and 1819.Front is of red brick,with a modillion cornice and an open pediment over the centre,which breaks forward with three windows.Five-window frontage,all with pointed arches and intersecting glazing bars.Central door with similar architrave and fanlight.Plaque in tympanum recording foundation and alteration.Slate roof with three stacks.Nos 1 to 33(odd)form a group.
