MARSHFIELD C.P. MARKET PLACE (west side) ST 7873 14/157 Marshfield House, 17.9.52 (formerly listed as the Vicarage) G.V. II*
House. Late C17, remodelled c.1730's. Ashlar; hipped C20 tiled roof behind moulded coped parapet and moulded eaves cornice. 2 storeys, basement and attics in hipped dormers. 1:3:1 bays, centre 3 slightly advanced and surmounted by a pediment. Sash windows with thick glazing bars and under segmental heads; the central windows are recessed and inset, with keystones. Central 6 panel door; doorcase with pilasters, frieze with triglyphs, all under a segmental pediment. 1 cross window to side elevation, 2 to rear elevation. Interior: kitchen has ogee moulded fire surround and chamfered beam; staircase with panelled dado, closed string and turned balusters; fine carved fireplace in entrance hall; bolection moulded fireplace in rear bedroom. A very good restrained local example of provincial baroque.
