8/44 Barn about 40 yards west of Great Moorcourt Farmhouse

GV II

Barn. Probably late C17 to early C18, with later additions. Rubble plinth, timber-framed, weatherboarded with brick rear wall and extension to right; tiled roof. Eight bays aligned north/south. East elevation [to Great Moorcourt Farmhouse (qv)]: opposed two-leaved ledged doors to threshing floors in third bays from each end, woven ventilator panels beneath eaves from left end to right threshing floor, lean-to brick extension, probably early C20, to left gable. Rear wall much repaired in brick; right hand gable has ventilator slits. Interior: trusses mostly have diagonal struts from ties to principals or three vertical posts from ties to collars which in turn support V-struts; truss to left hand side of right threshing floor has multiple scissor struts parallel to the principals. Closes the farmyard at Great Moorcourt together with the Farmhouse (qv) and adjacent cow house (qv). (RCHM Vol II, p 133).
