BRINKBURN B 6334 NZ 19 NW (North side) 10/63 New Houses Farmhouse with attached outbuildings II
House and outbuildings. House late C17 or early C18, heightened and refenestrated in later C18; internal alterations in mid-C19. West outbuilding later C18 as part of foldyard group, south end incorporated in house in mid- C19; east outbuilding probably early C19. Squared stone; blue slate roof on house, with end stacks rebuilt in brick. Purple slates on outbuildings.
House 2 storeys + attics, 3 irregular bays. Right-of-centre renewed door in old opening; 16-pane sash windows to ground floor and 12-pane sashes above; all openings in chamfered surrounds except for blocked stone-surround windows to attic. Coped gables with rebuilt end stacks, the left on old base. At left is the end of west outbuilding range: blocked door, inserted C20 casement on far left and 16-pane sash to each floor; roof hipped at left. Left return shows 4 small 1st-floor windows in heavy block surrounds. To right is single-storey east outbuilding with hip-ended roof; boarded door and stable door to rear. Inner return of west outbuilding range shows 3 boarded doors, one at head of stone external stair, and 2 slatted windows.
Interior of house: some fielded-panel doors; cupboards with fielded-panel doors on H hinges in west bedroom; C19 marble Gothic fireplace in east bedroom.
Small outshuts on west of west outbuilding, pent porch at rear of house, and north part of west outbuilding range (where east wall has been demolished to enlarge covered yard) are not of interest.
