9/224 and 12/224 26-1-56 The Manor House GV II*

Country House, late C18 with modifications and third storey of 1832 (RCHM) Rendered walls with hipped slate roof and stacks in various locations. 3 storeys and semi-basement, east front of 5 bays, symmetrical. Sash windows with glazing bars in moulded stone architraves. First-floor, central has a Palladian window. Cornice above first floor windows. Projecting porch with balustraded parapet. Door approached by curved double flights of stone steps with iron balustrades. Other facades have C19 bow windows and some reset C17 stone mullioned windows in the semi-basement. Internal features (RCHM): Open string staircase with moulded mahogany handrail and reeded cast iron balusters with volute capitals together with octagonal newel post with palm-leaf capitals; principal rooms have moulded and enriched cornices; second floor chimney piece with frieze decorated with a human mask and flower swags.
