Details
SO 82 NE LEIGH TEWKESBURY ROAD, Coombe Hill (east side) 3/80 Barn, Grange Farm II Barn, and former cartshed and granary. Mid to late C18, altered C20. English bond brickwork, stone plinth, tiled roof. Five-bay barn, centre porches with 2-bay cartshed with granary over at one end; lean-tos along whole of south side to depth of porch. Gable to road: boarded door and metal window to right, metal window to left, all with concrete lintels. Between, brick steps to granary, stone treads and quarter landing, simple handrail: boarded door to granary, window to left, cambered brick heads to both: parapet gable. Right return low wall to lean-to, various windows: double, boarded doors to porch, gable over. Single- storey wing off right end not of special interest. Interior: barn with diamond air-vents in sides and ends, including to originally internal walls. Unusual queen-strut truss, with collar set between struts; 2 pairs square, butt purlins, set vertically, plank ridge, long windbraces rising from wallplate, cutting rafters. Doorway each side of south porch into lean-tos. Cartshed extended into lean-to: originally central timber post to main, north opening, timber lintel over. Tie-beam truss to granary, angle struts and collar. Lean-tos on left return not of special interest.
