FRITTON & ST. OLAVES CHURCH LANE TG 40 SE (south side) 7/33 Fritton Old Hall 27.11.54 - II*
House. 3 builds. Original house was of cross passage plan c.1540. Service end of this refaced early C19-to form new south front. Position of hall now occupied by mid C19 block, altered C20. To north a further extension of c.1870. Timber framed south section with brick infill and brick skin. Remainder of brick, the north wing whitewashed. Roofs of black glazed pantiles. South front of 2 storeys in 3 bays. Panelled central door under plain pediment. One horned sash window each side under segmental arches. 3 sashes to first floor. Dentil eaves cornice. Gabled roof with internal eastern gable stack. Central block of 2 storeys in 3 bays. Central door below plain pediment. C20 French windows to right and C20 casement to left of door. 2 C20 casements to first floor. Gabled roof with skylights. Ridge stack set to left. 2 storey and dormer attic north block. 4 bay facade. Central canted bay rises through 2 storeys panelled door and casements. 2 sash windows to each floor to right of canted bay and one to left to each floor. Parapet partly conceals gabled roof. One central sloping dormer. Interior. In cross passage remain 3 screen doorways. These are rectangular but with mortar slots for 4-centred arches. One C20 replacement arch is in situ. Above doorways are 2-light openings. Chamfered and tongue stopped bridging beam runs to south wall. Roof of south block survives : tie beams on arched braces, tension braces to wall plates. Diminished principals and clasped purlins. Cambered collars and some curved windbracing.
