Details
KNOWSTONE KNOWSTONE SS 82 SW 3/25 Masons Arms - 20.2.67 GV II Inn. Probably C16, extended at rignt end in C17, but very possible earlier fabric concealed. Rendered stone rubble and cob. Thatch roof, hipped to short rear wing and small single-storey outbuilding attached to front right end. Rendered stone rubble stack across rear left-hand angle. Axial brick stack (formerly gable end) and brick stack at right end. Plan: early core apppears to consist of larger heated room to right with direct entry, with 2 smaller rooms to left, the smaller middle room divided by axial passage with staircase at rear of passage. C17 extension of one room plan at right end. Short 2 storey service wing to rear left end and small single storey outbuilding attached to front right end. Exterior: 2 storeys. 4-window range. Principally C19 fenestration intact, all 2 light casements to upper storeys, 3 light casements to ground floor. 2 plank doors and blocked door to left end. Interior: brief inspection suggests interior is largely unspoilt with good quality chamfered and stopped beams and fireplace lintels to the principals rooms. Roof deserves thorough inspection.
