PORINGLAND THE STREET TG 20 SE (north side) 5/49 Margin Cottage II House, formerly 4 houses in a row. Late C17 with much later work. Partly timber framed, partly brick and flint. Rendered and whitewashed. Roofs of thatch and pantiles. South end is mostly timber framed. South-east side of 2 storeys in 3 distint ranges, the central range thatched and once itself 2 properties. 3 doorways and numerous casement windows of C18-C20 dates. 3 gabled roofs. Reduced ridge stack at centre of thatched range. To south of this range an external gable end stack now incorporated into southern block. Northern block with internal gable end stack. North-west side broadly similar: 2 doorways, one to south behind a C20 gabled porch. Scattered fenestration as before. Interior. 2 large open fireplaces remain, as do patches of exposed timber framing. One blocked 4-light chamfered mullioned window to south-east side of ground floor of southern block. In the rooms above this are bridging beams with sunk quadrant mouldings.
