NORTH BOVEY LETTAFORD SX 78 SW 4/217 Stable/cart shed approximately - 30 metres north of Southmeads
GV II
Stable and attached cart shed. Probably late C18/early C19. Granite rubble walls, corrugated iron roof with gable ends. Plan of stable to one side and open-fronted 2-bay cart shed to the other side. Single storey. Asymmetrical front. Right-hand side is open fronted cart shed divided into 2 bays by central rough granite post. Stable has door to right with timber lintel. Lean-to outshut at right-hand gable end. At left gable end is a granite framed ventilation slit on ground and first floor with central drainage hole at ground level. On rear wall is straight joint to right of centre with dressed quoins to its right-hand side and larger stones at that end. Also towards that end on the ground floor is a granite framed ventilation slit. Interior: inside the stable the dividing wall from the cart shed projects a short distance in from the door and the projecting section contains some large dressed granite blocks. The wall extends up to first floor height and at the top has a line or projecting dressed stones. Forms part of an important group of farm buildings and early houses in a small moorland settlement on the fringe of Dartmoor.
