Details

BRADNINCH WEST END ROAD (north-west side), SS 90 SE Bradninch 13/47 Nos. 28 & 30 - GV II 2 houses, formerly 1 dwelling. Late C16 or C17 with later alterations. Cob, stone plinth, plastered, with a rear stone wing, under a hipped and gabled-end slate roof. Formerly a 3-room, through-passage plan house (aligned along street) with a rear (inner room) wing to the right, forming an L-shaped plan. Internal end stack to right. 2 storeys. Front; 4-window range; 3 of the upper windows have C20 pivoted sashes with glazing bars, the other is a 2-light casement. Ground floor: 2 C20 windows pivoted with glazing bars, and door to No.26 (to left); No.28, doorway under moulded canopy on shaped brackets, and a 2-light casement to the right. Right-hand elevation and rear with C20 casements. Interior: Plank and muntin screen to inner room (rear wall), chamfered with hollow step stops 18" above floor level; this is now on a concrete plinth and may not be in situ. Doorway from passage into inner room with chamfered lintel and jambs, tile door itself with 2 big fielded panels. Roof: 2 trusses, apex carpentry missing; slender scantling, collars, side-pegged.
